How Who Why We Help

Supporting Autistic Young People

We are a charity dedicated to supporting autistic young people aged 12-25. Our work is centred around peer support, helping young people navigate challenges in both community settings and inpatient psychiatric units across the West Midlands. By providing a safe, understanding, and empowering environment, we aim to create lasting change for those who need it most.

Peer Support: Inpatient and Community Services

Our peer support program is at the heart of what we do. Our trained peer support workers use DBT-informed skills and sensory integration techniques to provide tailored support for autistic young people. Whether in hospitals, schools, or community settings, we ensure that each young person receives the individual care and guidance they need to navigate their unique challenges.

In inpatient settings, we provide a crucial bridge between young people and their care teams, ensuring their voices are heard and their experiences are validated. In the community, we work with schools, families, and social groups to help autistic young people develop coping strategies, build relationships, and increase their confidence in daily life.

Youth-Led Social Action

Beyond direct support, we empower young people through social action initiatives, raising awareness of autism and mental health. Our youth-led projects have had a significant impact in police stations, hospital A&E settings, and public institutions, helping to educate and transform society into a more inclusive space for neurodivergent individuals. Through advocacy, workshops, and public engagement, we are shaping a future where autistic young people are better understood and supported.

Why Lived Experience Matters.

At EDA, we believe in the power of lived experience. Autistic young people often face barriers to accessing the right support because their experiences are not fully understood by traditional services. By ensuring that our peer support workers and advocates have firsthand experience with autism and mental health challenges, we provide a unique and deeply impactful approach to support. Our work is built on trust, understanding, and a commitment to making sure no young person feels alone in their journey.
